IO1 - Toolkit for tackling Learning Disabilities in Math
Objectives of activities carried out:
The first phase is devoted to identify and define students’ Learning Disabilities in Math.
It is forsees four questionnaires:
- 2 addressed to teachers aiming at illustrating which difficulties a student may have and identifying the best strategies that the teacher can apply to tackle this difficulties;
- the other 2 are addressed to students in order to identify their Learning Disabilities in Math.Machiavelli has to contribute and carried out:
- to create the Questionnaires A1 and A2
- to collect the results regarding the Questionnaires A1 and A2
- to analyse the results and discuss the most common problems of learning Maths
- to involve teachers of Associate partner asking them to fill the Questionnaires A1 and A2 in
- to create examples of questions for Questionnaires B1 and B2 for students
- analysis of the students' results in maths
- preparing application of the questionnaire B1 and B2
- to obtain permission for students to answer the questionnaires
Thanks to the results of the different questionnaires the project partners will be able to create new tools to monitor and intervene to overcome such Disabilities.
The tools are:
1) Identification tools, a set of tools to be used for the definition and identification of Learning Disabilities in Math;
2) Monitoring tools, set of tools for the monitoring of the Learning Disabilities.
3) Intervention tools, set of tools on the Learning Disabilities.

- Apply interventions and monitoring tools.
Description of activities carried out:
Informing the school community and teachers about the project.
Diagnosing the knowledge of maths learning difficulties and disabilities among the teachers of the Associate partner schools.
Preparing the Questionnaires A1 and A2 in English and in Italian.
Collecting and analysing the questionnaire A1 and A2.
Preparing an example of a list of the exercises for Questionnaires B1 and B2 for students (in English and in Italian).
Analysis of questionnaires A1 and A2 with math teachers at school.
Contact with 5 teachers from other schools.
The results were sent to the coordinating institution.
Creating questions for questionnaires B1 and B2.
Analyzing of the examples of items presented in the questionnaires.
Mathematics teachers have created permissions for students to answer the questionnaires.
Creation of Identification tools, to be used for the definition and identification of Learning Disabilities in Math.
Creation of 6 Intervention tools, to be used for the Learning Disabilities.
Creation of 6 Monitoring tools, to be used for the monitoring of the Learning Disabilities.
Review of intervention and monitoring tools
Translation in English of the intervention and monitoring tools
One intervention and monitoring tool was applied
Translation in Italian of the other intervention and monitoring tools
Adjusting intervention and monitoring tools to virtual lessons
Other five intervention and monitoring tools were applied in virtual lessons
Results Achieved:
Questionnaires A1 and A2 in English and in Italian have been prepared
Questionnaires A1 and A2 in English have been sent to partners to translation
School teachers have been involved
Questionnaires A1 and A2 have been collected, analyzed and reviewed
The level of familiarity with the problem has been diagnosed.
An example of a list of the exercises for questionnaires B1 and B2 for students has been created.

Developing and analyzing of questionnaires B1 and B2.

- Questionnaires A1 and A2 in Portuguese language.
- Questionnaires filled by teachers.
- Online submission of the questionnaires.
- Questions for questionnaires B1 and B2 have been created
- Results from questionnaires B1 and B2
- Development of 4 interventions tools
- Development of 2 Monitoring tools, to be used for the monitoring of the Learning Disabilities.
- Creation of Intervention and monitoring tools.
- Italian intervention and monitoring tools were reviewed.
- Application of 1 intervention tools (in 1 classroom).
- Development of other 2 interventions tools due during Exceptional time.
- Development of 4 Monitoring tools due during Exceptional time.
- Application of 5 intervention tools (in 4 classroom) due during Exceptional time.
- Review and translation in Italian of all the other intervention and monitoring tools (31 for each one) due during Exceptional time.
- Translation in Italian of all the possible contents into web portal, due during Exceptional time.
